An Ode to Home

On a quiet street in a quaint neighborhood lies a blue house with black shudders. An old lavender bush in the yard keeps wary of mischievous sprites and creatures alike. The house waits patiently for the sounds of clanging pots, excited chatter, and the pitter patter of paw prints to fill its brim. Overflowing with the glow from a sea glass lamp and the smell of rosemary baked chicken, the house beams with comfort.

A large ash tree stands guard to protect the house from the hands of the sun while providing refuge for a rather mischievous squirrel from a rather curious cat. Colorful tulips awaken after a bitter frost brushing their leaves against the frigid air and embracing the warmth of the sun. Rows of brown grass breath life as their leaves turn an emerald shade of green. Vines creep along a red wooden fence and intertangle with one another in a sweet spring dance. A short lawn gnome with a bright blue pointed hat protects the wonders of the garden watching red breasted robins visit nonchalantly throughout the hours of the morning.

A curious black and white dog muddies the kitchen floor with small paw prints to entertain a laughing baby during lunch time. Hugs are given to all members of the family as the house prepares for bed with a warm cup of tea and bite of chocolate.

Home isn’t defined to one place, but it is a collection of memories and an assortment of feelings packaged to open at anytime. As we swim through the ebbs and flows of life, home is our life vest ready to bring us back to safety at any moment. Home is dependable, loving, and the perfect spot to kick your feet up after a long tiring day. It is a place where families come together, friends dance in kitchens, and comfort resides.

I am lucky to have a home in more than one place. Cheers to cherishing those you love and for the blue house with the black shudders in the quaint neighborhood.

Love,

The Daily Paige
